Community Learning: Exponentially increase your toolkit by engaging in inspired sharing of solutions

Years ago, I was part of a group of 10 business executives who met regularly over a period of time. The common thread amongst us was that we all shared a goal of improving our business acumen and performance. The result was that as opposed to attending a session where we learned primarily from our business expert leader / facilitator, in this group we also learned from one another. If I were to say whether I learned more from our leader or from the other group members, I could not. The learning experience was much greater in this type of forum than it would have been in a traditional workshop or seminar structure.

Another time, I helped one of my clients establish a community of company leaders geographically near one another and in related businesses. The very first time the group came into a room together, there were two business deals struck. “I am doing a project and I don’t have x y z,” said one company leader. “My company can do x y z for you!” said the second company leader. One other business deal was born in that first meeting also. And so, even though all companies were practically neighbours, it was not until that time that they realized they could help one another. Marvelous. I was astounded.

The experience of community learning, with others who share the same goals and objectives as you do, is indeed unique. We are fortunate in that there are several means of connecting with others – email, social media, telephone, and in-person. Stay tuned for more on this, specifically designed for aerospace and defense business development leaders, with topics such as:

  • Customer value proposition - the compelling case for the customer to buy from your company instead of from your competition
  • Business growth strategy - what is this and what it is used for
  • Taking the big steps for growth - obtaining and capitalizing on available resources
  • Competitive analysis
  • Breaking in - winning new business from new customers
  • The art of influence amongst all the noise
  • The nine complex decisions of winning a complex sale
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • And more ...
